Traveling LibraryCustom carrying case + book collectionPresented at the Vanport Mosaic’s Memory Activism Fair, Portland, Oregon2019

Presented at Vanport Mosaic’s 2019 Memory Activism Fair, A Hazel Hall Traveling Library is a tool for sharing her poetry, life story, and works about her. The Library’s main components are two portable cases which convert to bookshelves when the front panels are removed. This Library facilitates access to her work, bringing her out of history and directly to contemporary audiences, and increasing awareness of her existence which has decreased in the years since her death.

The smaller case contains the first editions of the three books of poetry by Hazel Hall. The larger case contains secondary source material including three self-published booklets two of tell the story of this project and Hall’s life through images and handwritten text and one written by Anita Helle, Emeritus Professor of English at Oregon State University. Dr. Helle also used the library to research the new afterword she wrote for The Collected Poems of Hazel Hall published by Oregon State University Press.

I designed the cases and collaborated with Dave Owens from Flair Plastic Products who did the engineering and fabrication.
