Fine Otherwise at the Post Office Gallery Site-specific installationPortland, Oregon
2025—2026

For this site-specific installation, twelve postcards are displayed with the message side facing the viewer, propped at an angle so that they can be easily read. This collection of postcards features images of Portland’s Central Library that were mailed in the early 1900s.

A row of small mirrors is behind the postcards, reflecting the images of the library printed on the other side of the postcards. A glass shelf sits a foot above the postcards. On each shelf is a long sheet of white paper printed with three rows of text in a wavy line formation. The texts are my selection of phrases from messages written on each card that delighted me most, as well as those that remark on what was noticeable about Portland and the library over a century ago.

The Post Office Gallery is inside the Kenton station of the United States Postal Service and is curated by Jennifer Randall. This post office serves a community of over 34,00 residents in the Kenton neighborhood of North Portland, Oregon. The gallery space is four large glass-fronted display cases oriented to face patrons as they wait in line and with a countertop for patrons to prepare their outgoing mail.

This collection and installation are the result of my experiences as a Picture Collection fellow at the NYPL and research conducted while I was an artist in residence at the James Stevenson Lost and Found Lab. Love to All is a related publication.
