A collection of handwritten messages on postcards from the early 1900s that feature images of Portland, Oregon’s Central Library. First published at the James Stevenson Lost and Found Lab in September 2024, this 16-page booklet is intended to share my research on the connection between postcards and library “p-slips.” P-slips are pieces of 3 x 5 in. scratch paper available at libraries. “…it was the early government issued postal cards (the first one was issued in 1873) that influenced the size of the catalog card, specifically its height. The “p” in “p-slip” stands for postal.” This is according to Larry Nix’s Library History Buff Blog December 2010 entry “Melvil Dewey's Library Postal Card.” Contact me if you would like to purchase a copy.
